Narnia Styled Winter Photoshoot

This session was an absolute dream come true.

My childhood was spent either in a world of my own imagination playing on the farm, or lost behind the pages of others imagination.

I was so fortunate that there was a second hand store in my community where I could purchase books for $0.10 a book. I had access to the school library and teachers who always encouraged me to read. Without my books, I would not have survived. Without the escape from the real world I would have been lost. I found out who I was by understanding who I wanted to be.

I wanted to be someone who dreamed, who loved deeply, who lived a life filled with adventure and connection. I wanted to learn how to accept me, and love the person I was. So I learned, and I grew.

One of my favourite books I ever came upon was the Narnia series. I think my favourite thing about these books, was that it allowed me to dream of a world that was not my own. This book bridged the real world and the world of magic. Allowing me to always bridge a world of hope and adventure.

I have wanted to do a Narnian themed photoshoot for so long, but I never felt confident in my skills to make that dream come alive.

This year, I was in a rut. With so much robbed from me this year I felt defeated. So with not much to lose, I tossed my dream into a social media public space and did a model call.

The response I received was incredible and the team created was perfect. This photo session brought me alive

So why don't I just introduce you to the team.

This lovely model Autumn showed up on my front step with her hair done perfectly ready to have her makeup done. She was so full of positive energy, was completely respectful of every single person involved in the shoot. She encapsulated the Queen of Narnia perfectly. I was completely blown away at her resilience to the ridiculously cold temperatures throughout the entire shoot.

Autumn isn't just a talented model but she also has a creative mind. She captured the behind the scenes from this shoot brilliantly and I will link her utube video at the end of this blog so you can really get the feel of how much work went into this.

And also a shout out to her husband John @John.st.cyr, for being an extra set of hands and helping this shoot run smoothly.

Our gown designer is none other than Michelle Bossert, who I have worked with on multiple photo sessions at, I have purchased custom gowns from her for my client closet, and I am just absolutely obsessed with her talent and vision. Not only does she spend so much time creating these master pieces, but she showed up to the session with serious commitment in the cold and the distance to make sure the dress was perfectly showcased on our amazing model.

Something I haven't had the privilege of ever doing is working with someone who designs and creates head pieces and accessories... Until this shoot. The vision for the gorgeous head piece was from Kitty Scarlet Rose @scarlets.creations. She kept the vision in theme with the Narnia movie, while adding her own flair of magic.

The hair stylist was the first hair stylist I had ever worked on a styled shoot with many years ago is Joan Couling. She is incredibly gift at these warrior women hair styles that just add the most unique look to the images. @jmcouling Vikings Edge Hair Stylist.

Our visionary for the makeup is the gifted Felina Misiuk, who not only did an amazing job on this shoot, she also did the makeup for my family photos this past summer, and she added her talents to the boudoir marathon. I am blown away at the level of talent this woman has. @infinitebeautycompany.

The venue was hosted by Iron Turtle Ranch and their incredible team @ironhorseturtleranch. I have so much gratitude that they took the time to help set up this shoot so it could make this vision come alive. They were so relaxed and easy going, which just made the whole thing so much more amazing. The horse were my favourite and it was really hard for me to not just stop and snuggle them.

I can honestly say that this session would not had happened if the Narnia die hard Kelly Maria Gabrille Patterson @kellymariegabrielle had not offered to cover the costs of the venue rental. She also so generously loaned us her lamp post to just add that extra magical touch. And to top it all off, she stayed and offered an extra set of hands as needed. Thank you so much Kelly.

And of course, to tie everything to the story, my two littles played Edmund and Lucy.

Now as much as we would have loved to have Mrs. Tumnus at the photoshoot it just didn't work out that way. But in the end I am glad it didn't, because that session was it's own unique version of wonderful. So stay tuned for the blog post on that session.
